General Description

The LP28057A is a complete constant-current/constant- voltagelinear charger for single cell lithium-ion batteries. Its ESOP8 package and low external component count make the LP28057A ideally suited for portable applications. Furthermore,the LP28057A is specifically designed to work within USBpower specifications. No external sense resistor is needed, andno blocking diode is required due to the internal MOSFET architecture. Thermal feedback regulates the charge current tolimit the die temperature during high power operation or highambient temperature. The charge voltage is fixed at 4.2V, andthe charge current can be programmed externally with a singleresistor. The LP28057A automatically terminates the chargecycle when the charge current drops to 1C/10th theprogrammed value after the final float voltage is reached. Whenthe input supply (wall adapter or USB supply) is removed, theLP28057A automatically enters a low current state, droppingthe battery drain current to less than 1μA. Other featuresinclude charge current monitor, automatic recharge and astatus pin to indicate charge termination and the presence of aninput voltage.
